Founded in 1982 by former WLA International player Mrs C.A. Lloyd. The first Club session was held on Sunday Dec. 5th at Penarth Athletic Field. From the onset, these practices were open to both girls and boys. Penarth Club attracted children from local Primary Schools who got their first taste of Lacrosse in the many 'Playdays' and Tournaments organised by the Club. By March 1988, the boys outnumbered the girl members, and, in order to accommodate these very keen and skilful players, the boys were introduced tothe more physical Men's' game. The Men's' Field game progressed and by 1991, the WLA felt increasingly confident to include an U16 Welsh Boys' Team and a Men's' Team in an International Festival of Lacrosse at Ebbw Vale on April 26th 1992. The Men's International was the first Welsh Men's Game for 85 years and the first to be played on Welsh soil. In 1995,Penarth organised and financed the first ever Centres of Development for the girls and boys Field Game. This initiative was followed by the WLA Centres of Development and Excellence which continue today, and are coached by members of Penarth Club. Chris Lloyd, Coach and Secretary, handed over the running of the Club, into the capable hands of Chris Shumack, in June 1998 knowing that the tradition of a 'Family' Club would be faithfully maintained.
